Mönsterås at 60 - getting better all the time
Södra’s Mönsterås mill has made significant progress over the past three years thanks to a rolling programme of investments, according to Karin Dernegård, process development manager at the mill: “The mill turns 60 this year but you wouldn’t know it. It is well invested, being one of the most modern mills of its type in the world.
Since 2015, the mill has seen investments in the woodroom, recovery boiler, evaporation plant, lime kiln, washing and bleaching, resulting in improvements in production consistency and quality, sustainability and emissions.
To summarise:
-
More even, monitored chips means less chemicals, better runnability and cleaner pulp
-
Recovery boiler, lime kiln and evaporation upgrades create energy efficiencies, reduced emissions and consolidate fossil fuel-free running of the mill
-
Bleaching reactor and twin-roll wash press investments mean gentler bleaching for a stronger, more consistent pulp and reliable process
