The raw material entering our pulp mills comes from Swedish family forestry, as practiced by more than 50,000 Södra members. And while everyday work on the forest estate naturally rests on tradition and down-to-earth reasoning, new technology and methods are entering this world too.
Digital tools, exact surveillance of the forest’s growth, and Södra’s expert knowledge are continuously helping the forest owners to increase the value of their efforts.
When a forest area is ready for harvesting, we make sure that each part of every tree is used optimally. That’s one area where our innovative approach brings the largest benefits for a sustainable society.
Most innovation projects at Södra’s pulp mills come with a pragmatic motive, closely linked to manufacturing and optimization. By refining existing processes and turning market needs into new production lines, we make large investments in keeping our leading position.
Our recent projects include new bleaching methods that increase our customers’ choices of quality and shades, and an extra strong pulp made by carefully adjusting the recipe. To replace metal wires and make pulp bale handling easier and safer, we have launched Fibersafe, a paper strap that saves time and lowers the environmental impact.
Our innovations only make their full impact on human lives and the environment once the pulp has left our mills and taken on a new form in the many industries that depend on it. Even before that, our customers can use our digital tool to adjust its features to make their pulp fit its purpose exactly.
At Södra, we will forever be impressed by the vast array of products created using our pulp – sometimes it seems that nothing is impossible.
