Environmental Impact Report

We have made an Environmental Impact Report that is based on our life cycle assessment (LCA). The report, as well as the LCA focus on a viscose produced from OnceMore dissolving pulp, based on 50 percent textile waste and 50 percent renewable wood. The scope is cradle-to-gate, including upstream materials production, forest management (including land use emissions and removals), dissolving pulp production, and viscose staple fibers production.

FAQ
What type of wood do you use?

The wood that is used to produce OnceMore® pulp is renewable hardwood: birch, beech and aspen. The trees come from Södra’s sustainably-managed forests.

Södra uses two systems for forest certification of member forest property - PEFC (PEFC/05-35-48) and FSC® (FSC-C006947). Södra has Chain of Custody certificates from PEFC and FSC® for delivery of certified products.

Does OnceMore not contribute to deforestation?

Södra’s members are committed to responsible forest management. Södra’s membership, comprising many small-scale forest farmers with a range of ideas and targets, contributes to highly-varied and diverse forest characteristics. A key tool for sustainable forestry is certification, which is why about 70 percent of our members hold FSC® and/or PEFC certification.

What type of waste do you use?

Instead of contributing to landfill, our partners supply us with their blended-fiber textile waste. The textile waste we use is traceable, secured over several years, and consistent – to ensure that we have a reliable product for the long term. Södra is certified according to the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and can produce and sell certified OnceMore® dissolving pulp. The certification is used to communicate that the product contains at least 5 percent recycled material. Södra is certified by Control Union, CU 1059293.

What would happen to the textile waste if you didn't use it?

If we didn’t use the textile waste, it would in best case be incinerated and in worse case ended up in landfill. We don’t take textiles that could enjoy a new life in the second hand market, only textiles that have reached the end of their life in their current form and are ready for recycling.
