“Sustainability is the key to all we do, and we need to collaborate to increase sustainability performance and create added value for your products,” said President and CEO Lotta Lyrå, introducing the first in Södra’s sustainability webinar series.

Presented also by Head of Sustainability Jessica Nordin and Senior Advisor Forestry Jonas Larsson, the first in the webinar series saw strong audience participation.

The webinars are aimed at promoting collaboration to increase sustainability performance for the sector as a whole.

In addition to a timely update regarding the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the first webinar identified the four areas which are key to sustainability at Södra.

Webinar 26 mars 2025 Jessica Nordin och Jonas Larsson
  1. Responsibly managed forests
Through more than 52,000 forest-owner members whose long-term approach, commitment to certification, active biodiversity management and climate adaptation create a trustworthy source of raw material.
  2. Sustainable use of resources
Based on innovation and a reduce-reuse-recycle hierarchy. Our kraft-lignin project at Mönsterås is one example of making the most from every tree.
  3. Reduced Climate impact
This is being achieved through efficiency improvements, promoting substitution and projects such as the long-term electrification of transport.
  4. People and culture at the centre
The focus on health and safety, active stakeholder dialogue and promotion of diversity, equality and inclusion are essential to the implementation of sustainable value chains.

EUDR in focus

With legislation due to take effect at the end of this year, the EUDR came top of the list of subjects which participants would like to examine in more depth in the further seminars planned for the coming year.

Jonas Larsson gave a detailed picture of the current state both of the EUDR and of Södra’s continuing actions to ensure its successful implementation, from interaction with the EU’s TRACES IT system to geolocation and the expected confirmation in June of country-specific risk assessments.

If you missed the first webinar and would like to learn more about how Södra’s work on sustainability can add value to your business.
