Barcelona: Why industry weeks mater more than ever
It was great to see so many familiar faces in Barcelona earlier this month and get to know those we have only ‘met’ via Teams until now, reflected Henrik Wettergren, Vice President Södra Cell International. The Sales team were out in force during the week-long industry event which takes place during the second week of September.
“Barcelona has grown to become an important week during the industry calendar. It’s a chance to meet customers and begin contract discussions for the coming year, but it’s also a time to talk about the issues and concerns we have in common”, added Henrik, “from soaring input costs and inflationary pressures to the challenge of climate change. We are all facing a tough winter, and it follows an exceptionally difficult few years during the pandemic”, he continued, “so teamwork and collaboration across the value chain are all the more important today.
“Technology is and will remain a huge help to facilitate communication, of course, but there’s just no substitute for meeting in person. Industry gatherings such as Barcelona and London Pulp Week (we will be there too, in November) offer the chance to see a lot of people in a short space of time and they make sense environmentally too – it’s one flight to see numerous customers from many different countries.
“This was also an opportunity to introduce the newest members of our Sales team to customers. We are in this difficult time together, and building and maintaining customer loyalty and trust is essential. That’s down to consistent delivery of a quality product, of course, but also to personal chemistry, so it’s great to be out meeting our customers once again.”
