Peace of Mind: Top marks for Södra’s certification audit

One of the requirements for being FSC® (FSC-C006947) and/or PEFC (PEFC/05-35-48) certified is that we undertake an external audit every year of our chain of custody process, in addition to the internal checks we conduct ourselves. We are delighted to announce that the auditor from Intertek found no threats or weaknesses as part of the SWOT analysis of our process this year (SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).

Chain of Custody Coordinator, Magnus Stamblock: “This great result shows we know what we are doing what it comes to chain of custody. For our customers, it’s an assurance that when they order PEFC or FSC® certified pulp, that’s exactly what we will deliver, and continue to deliver. We know how important certified pulp is to our customers so it’s essential that we can always source, track, process and deliver from certified wood sources.

“More than two thirds of Södra’s 53,000 member estates are certified to FSC® or PEFC, many to both. The volume of our certified wood continues to grow year on year, albeit at a slower pace than a few years ago when our members responded to growing demand from our customers for certified wood and pulp. The fact that the audit found no notable flaws in our system reflects the additional focus within Södra of getting this absolutely right – we stepped up education across our operations to make sure everyone understood the demands and rules of the system. Traceability matters to customers and therefore to Södra, as shown by this very positive audit.”
