Adding value remains our key focus
I’m delighted to take up the post as Head of Sales Paper Pulp Global for Södra Cell. While I embark on this role at a difficult time, in the longer term I cannot wait to be back on the road meeting face to face again – one of the major attractions of the pulp market for me is the fact that it has always been, and remains, very much a people business.
While I am deskbound for now, in Hamburg where I am based, my team and I shall be using the time to make sure we allocate our stocks as efficiently as possible around the world. Circumstances have conspired to limit some of our deliveries in the short term. We are doing everything we possibly can to minimize the disruption and I hope and expect any inconvenience to be short lived.
Europe remains our home market and continues to be our strongest focus, but we know our customers’ needs are increasingly global, and we must serve them accordingly. We are constantly looking at ways to increase the efficiency of every delivery, from the Take Care 2.0 logistics programme to sustainable transport and enhanced cooperation across the value chain.
A key part in our service plans will be the digitalization of our SMI (supplier managed inventory programme). We’re working on a new system which should optimise supply and reduce capital costs for our customers, essentially allowing us to manage customer warehousing and take the headache out of stock management.
At the same time, we talk continually with our R&D team and the Technical Product Managers to develop tools for customers to use our pulps in the smartest way possible, both for resource management and added value.
Covid-19 may have created a ‘new normal’ of virtual meetings, but I will always be keen to meet face to face when allowed, and larger industry gatherings such as Vancouver, Barcelona and London are back in our diaries. If Vancouver proves too optimistic, we certainly hope Barcelona will be a date when we can meet.
I look forward to building upon the great cooperation the Sales team has built up with our customers and to seeing how we can add further value for the future.
See you soon I hope!
