Mörrum’s production permit expanded

Södra’s Mörrum mill has been granted permission to increase its production from 460,000 to 560,000 tpy by the local authorities.

“To receive the higher-capacity extension, we have to show that we can exceed our current 460,000 threshold by the end of 2021 or we lose the option to expand and our absolute limit remains at 460,000 tpy,” explains Nilla Dahlin, Sustainability Manager at Mörrum . “We notified the authorities that we have a production exceeding an annual 460,000 tpy-capacity. That proves that we are capable of taking advantage of a higher threshold and the extended permit has now been granted.

“This is an important milestone for the mill because it gives us the flexibility to expand production and gives us strategic opportunities for the future. We will continue to work on minimal environmental impact from all our operations, but now we also have the opportunity to develop our production further. The permit also includes the possibility to extract lignin from the process which opens up interesting opportunities.”
