Mönsterås invests in upgraded evaporation technology

Mönsterås is ordering a new evaporation plant which will bring numerous benefits to the mill, as Project Manager Håkan Edvinsson explains.

“This state-of-the-art evaporation plant will bring several advantages:

It will be more energy efficient than the old system, helping us to conserve energy resources.

The water that we collect after evaporating down the weak liquor into black liquor will result in a cleaner condensate compared to the existing technology. We can then use the condensate in the bleaching process, saving on freshwater consumption and cleaning.

The methanol produced from the evaporation process will hopefully be sent to the mill’s new biomethanol plant where it will be purified to make it suitable for use as an odorless biofuel (rather than being burned).

Early separation of soap and black liquor will result in a higher yield of tall oil.

Housing is scheduled for Q2 2022 with installation in October 2022 and startup planned for Q1 2023.
