Technology investments include world first

Södra Cell Värö

Ongoing technology investments at Södra Cell include the world’s first electrical folding machine for pulp bales, two of which are due for imminent startup at Mönsterås. In addition, all three Södra Cell pulp mills, Mönsterås, Mörrum and Värö, are to be equipped with an extra one thousand wireless vibration sensors to monitor production equipment.

The ground-breaking Valmet pulp bale folding technology will improve performance and the working environment for maintenance personnel and operators by removing hydraulics and using electrical drives alone. The investment will also have the effect of reducing electricity consumption.

The Airius LTE-M vibration sensors from SPM Instrument are the second phase of wireless sensors to be installed at the mills. The measuring results are saved in a database to be used by Södra Cell’s data engineers in collaboration with mill-based technicians, to detect problems and contribute to optimum production efficiency.
