AI to help crack sustainability challenge
We’re all increasingly concerned about sustainability but monitoring our true impact on the climate and the environment is complex. That’s why we are now embarking on a new initiative to make sustainability-related information available in real time.
Together with Microsoft and KPMG (named by Microsoft as Sustainability Partner of the Year), we are starting a three-step journey to improve the availability of our sustainability information, create better analysis and decision-making support and establish world-class sustainability reporting. The goal is to enable a shift from just regular data collection to an additional focus on compiling and analyzing content – and thus drawing better conclusions.
"For Södra, sustainability is a strategic issue, where focus and ambition are high. By innovating together with strong partners, we seek to continue leading the drive towards a better society", says Cristian Brolin, Chief Digital Officer at Södra.
The first step is to automate the reporting of measurement points using a completely new system supported by Microsoft Sustainability Manager. Through technologies such as RPA (automated business processes), data will not only feed into the system automatically, but with higher frequency.
Step two is to facilitate the work with the Annual and Sustainability Report, which today is very resource intensive. With automated data collection and processing, close to real time where possible, and a system that is constantly updated, the information quality and level of detail will continuously improve.
The highest value then comes in the third step. With the help of accurate and real-time updated information, we can supplement employees' skills with advanced AI for even more data-driven results.
As Sustainability Information Manager, Eva Thuresson, points out in this month’s foreword, for you, our customers, these reporting initiatives add up to one thing: Peace of mind.
