Help solve one of forestry’s major challenges: browsing damage
Browsing damage to forest plants and young stands costs forest owners across southern Sweden a great deal of money every year. Although the issue has major implications for both growth and future forest value, there is still a lack of solutions that fully meet the needs of practical forestry. Södra is therefore launching an innovation challenge aimed at identifying the next generation of damage-reducing measures against wildlife browsing.
We are looking for companies, researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators who want to help develop new solutions together with us.
We are looking for new applications and solutions with potential
The challenge is not about finding wildlife repellents that are already used and sold as protection against browsing damage today. Instead, we are interested in new ideas as well as finished products, technologies and solutions from other sectors that may have the potential to be used in a new way in forestry.
This could range from new materials and protection systems to sensor technology, AI, image analysis, light- or sound-based solutions, biological methods or entirely different ideas. A solution may therefore already be finished and available on the market, but needs to be tested, adapted or further developed to address forestry’s challenge with browsing damage.
The challenge is deliberately broad. What matters is that the solution has the potential to reduce browsing damage, works in practice and creates value for forest owners, ideally in collaboration between developers, researchers and Södra.
From idea to verification
For the most interesting proposals, there will be an opportunity to discuss how the solution could be verified, tested and further developed together with Södra. The aim is to identify solutions that can create real value for forest owners and contribute to more robust forestry.
