Sustainable use of resources

We believe there are opportunities to make products and processes more resource-efficient. We work to improve the efficiency of how we use forest raw materials and to explore new applications and to use more of every tree and increase our competitiveness.

Sustainable innovations

Innovation is key to unlocking the full potential of the whole tree. A recent example is the kraft lignin production facility we are building at our pulp mill in Mönsterås, which is scheduled to be operational by 2027. Lignin is the glue that binds the fibres in a tree and kraft lignin can replace fossil materials in a wide range of applications, including adhesives, batteries, rubber and composites, as well as forming the base for new biofuels.

Electricity and heat production

Today, almost all our electricity production comes from renewable fuels. Energy is generated in our pulp mills and sawmills, primarily originating from timber raw materials. Our industrial operations generate a significant surplus of energy for external customers in the form of renewable electricity, district heating and biofuels.
