Electricity from family forestry
Since 2010, Södra has transitioned from being a purchaser of electricity to becoming self-sufficient and now also a significant supplier of green electricity to the public grid. The electricity is generated during the processing of forest raw material at Södra’s industrial facilities.
In 2024, a total of 272 gigawatt hours (GWh*) of electricity was supplied, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 120,000 electric cars*.
*Calculations based on figures from Transport Analysis, where an average passenger car in Sweden drives 11,260 kilometres per year with an electricity consumption of approximately 2 kWh per kilometre.
