New building in CLT at Södra in Värö

About the project

The building will feature a structure made of cross-laminated timber sourced from family forestry holdings and processed locally in Värö, ensuring a low climate impact.

In total, we will deliver around 12,000 m² of CLT for the building’s frame. The facade will be clad in heat-treated, colour-stained spruce panelling. All structural timber to be used is planned to be produced at Södra’s sawmills.

The design is by Fredblad Architects, who describe the inspiration as coming from the forest: “a dark exterior and a warm interior intended to evoke the feeling of a woodland glade where sunlight filters down between the trunks.”

The new building will provide employees in Värö with larger shared spaces that strengthen collaboration and community, while also offering facilities for welcoming visitors. There will also be exhibition areas and a restaurant where the entire Södra team in Värö can gather. Going forward, the building will serve as a reference project for customers, combined with visits to the cross-laminated timber factory in Värö.

Södra has signed an agreement with MTA Bygg & Anläggning as the main contractor for the new building. Completion is expected by the end of 2026.
