Together with NCC, Södra supplied cross-laminated timber (CLT) for the construction of Brage preschool in Hyllie, just outside Malmö. By choosing timber as the main structural material, the building’s climate impact was reduced by 40 percent. Photo: Christoffer Borg Mattisson/NCC

The client, Malmö Stadsfastigheter, managed the construction of Brage preschool as a pilot project for climate-efficient building, in collaboration with contractor NCC.
The production of CLT takes place in synergy with Södra’s pulp mill and sawmill at the Värö site outside Varberg.
What is CLT?
CLT is a renewable material with great potential. The product is made from sawn spruce timber, which is finger-jointed and glued together into lamellas. These lamellas are then laid crosswise in layers, creating a solid CLT element. This construction provides a strong and rigid building component with high dimensional stability. Using modern CNC technology, we achieve high precision, which makes on-site construction more efficient.

our building systems
We offer wood frames, facades, and interior cladding. Together, they provide the opportunity to create unique and sustainable buildings that breathe the forest from the inside out.
