About the project
For the Kronen project, Södra supplied CLT as part of the structural frame, for what was, at the time of construction, Denmark’s tallest and largest timber apartment building. The Kronen building in UN17 Village stands 24 meters tall and offers 80 apartments.
The architecture and construction of Kronen have focused on optimal indoor climate, fresh air both inside and out, good natural light, excellent sound insulation, and a minimal CO2 footprint—factors to which the choice of CLT as a material has contributed. The vision for UN17 Village was to create a safe and healthy living environment for residents, and so the project focused on using natural materials and innovative solutions. In total, about 1,100 people will live in UN17 Village.
“We see that wood and bio-based products play an obvious role as building materials of the future. From a sustainability perspective, the UN17 Village project was, and is, a spectacular project, showcasing what will be required in the construction industry moving forward, but also demonstrating what is possible. Already today, we see and hear about similar initiatives. I believe this is the way forward for the industry and something we will see much more of in the future,” says Kenny Holm, marketing manager for Södra Building Systems Denmark.

Our offer
A wise choice from family forestry
We offer processed elements in cross-laminated timber (CLT) for structural construction. Building with CLT results in lower climate impact compared to fossil-based construction materials, as it consists of a renewable resource and stores carbon dioxide.
