About the project
The hydrogen stations are part of a nationwide initiative aimed at making it possible to refuel trucks, buses and cars with fossil-free fuel at around 30 locations across the country. Together, this creates a joint business that drives the transition toward renewable solutions on a commercial basis.
“We at Hydri are highly optimistic about the development of infrastructure for renewable fuels, where hydrogen plays a key role. By building stations with sustainable materials such as CLT, we strengthen our ambition to contribute to the green transition and create long-term climate solutions for both national and international transport,” says Peter Enå, chief executive officer at Hydri.
“We have a really exciting partnership with Hydri, whose values in many ways align with Södra’s. We are creating a joint business that drives the shift toward renewable solutions on a commercial basis. We also show that standardization with a focus on optimized material use creates economically competitive solutions,” says Andreas Berge, Head of Business Area at Södra Building Systems.
CLT from Södra is a locally produced building material that offers several advantages. Thanks to its low weight, less transport is required, allowing more panels to be loaded per shipment. The assembly is quick and easy, providing a safe working environment while being cost-effective. Moreover, the total carbon dioxide emissions associated with the building are reduced, as the timber continues to store carbon dioxide throughout its lifespan.
“It is important to cooperate with players who contribute to society’s green transition. In our own operations as a producer and supplier of CLT, transport accounts for the largest share of fossil-based emissions. Hydri’s expansion of infrastructure for green hydrogen is in line with our own climate goals of halving our fossil-based emissions by 2030,” says Ola Landqvist, business developer at Södra Building Systems.
About Hydri
Hydri is a subsidiary of Qarlbo Energy, jointly owned by Qarlbo and FAM, and focuses on creating the energy systems of tomorrow. The project is co-financed by Hydri AB and Klimatklivet. By focusing on the entire value chain, Hydri aims to drive industries and communities toward a carbon-free future.
Södra’s value chain contributes to CLT’s low climate impact
Production of the CLT takes place in symbiosis with Södra’s pulp mill and sawmill at the facility in Värö, outside Varberg. In this way, the entire tree is utilized, refining the sustainable forest raw material from the responsibly managed family forests into renewable, climate-smart products and solutions that create value for many people in a more natural society.
Södra was founded in 1938 on the idea that we are stronger together. Today, Södra is Sweden’s largest forest owners’ association with more than 50,000 family forest owners as members. Together, the members of Södra own a world-leading industry that refines forest raw material into renewable products in pulp, timber, building systems, liquid bioproducts, and energy.

Wood from inside and out
We offer wood frames, facades, and interior cladding. Together, they provide the opportunity to create unique and sustainable buildings that breathe the forest from the inside out.
