We’re keen to be a partner on this journey towards a more sustainable future. Just as the original members of Södra joined forces to form a cooperative so they could be stronger together, we believe that the way to make a real difference to climate mitigation is to collaborate across the value chain. It’s why we introduced the Conscious delivery initiative, as Christina Wennberg, Marketing Manager, explains.

“Transport accounts for a major part of our total carbon emissions, but since our scope 1 emissions are our customers’ scope 3, we want to see more collaborative initiatives that will reduce emissions throughout the entire value chain, benefitting us all. We know there’s an opportunity here to reduce transport emissions which is why we introduced Conscious delivery.

“Put simply, this is about looking at ways to work together to lower logistics emissions by looking at each customer and route individually. There is no one-size-fits-all offering, but a tailored, transparent approach depending on the availability of fossil-free options and routes. The conversation starts with a close look at which deliveries and routes are having the largest climate impact and why. Then we look at what is feasible together, from choosing or extending biofuels to using a mass-balance or book-and-claim system, depending on what works best.

“Our analyses show that we can lower emissions by at least 50 percent for deliveries to Europe, in France, Spain and Portugal for example. Some cases in Belgium and the Netherlands, unlocking new possibilities could result in a reduction in carbon emissions of up to 80 percent, and by up to 75 percent for some customers in Italy, Germany and Poland, among others. For deliveries within Sweden, we see the possibility to lower emissions by 85 percent, just by working differently,
