Go for gold: Birch may surprise you
If you haven’t used our birch pulp for paper applications, it might be time to consider a trial of Södra gold (with full technical support from our side, of course). Technical Product Manager, Cecilia Oscarsson, says our Södra gold pulp has numerous advantages for papermakers:
Did you know:
- Södra gold is made at Mönsterås, where the majority of birch trees grow very close to the mill and are supplied by family foresters, our members, giving it a very low carbon footprint from the forest to the woodyard.
- Birch pulp is easy to refine requiring less energy than other hardwoods, making this an excellent choice for energy efficiency.
- Södra gold delivers very high tensile strength, even higher than softwood grades, with only low to moderate refining.
- For tissue Södra gold provides good softness and for graphic grades it offers great printability and finish.
- All Södra gold comes certified to TCF as standard, and to PEFC or FSC®.
- Deliveries of Södra gold to Europe are baled using our environmentally-friendly FiberSafe® paper straps as standard.
- Birch is a naturally occurring species in the forests of southern Sweden and fundamental to a healthy ecosystem and biodiversity. It is a requirement of FSC® that we keep a percentage of natural species in our forests, so birch is an essential part of the sustainability mix for our members.
