Complementary components

For sustainable wood construction

We offer complementary products to build a complete frame in CLT. Together with experienced suppliers, we clarify which products are best suited for your unique project. This includes fasteners such as screws and brackets, acoustic materials, metalwork, and sealing materials, such as tape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which fasteners does Södra recommend?

We collaborate with Rothoblaas and Würth.

Fastening wood and concrete, how does it work?

There are several suppliers of brackets for fasteners adapted for wood-concrete connections. It is important to have a moisture barrier between the CLT and the concrete foundation to protect the panels from possible moisture.

What about moisture?

The product is not sensitive to rain exposure for a short time but avoid accumulation of standing water. Make sure that water that has entered can quickly exit and dry out wood that has become moist before it is built in. A good way to keep track of moisture in the panels is to continuously perform moisture checks. Think about the assembly order and assemble it in sections so that they become weatherproof as you go.

What about acoustics?

Acoustics and sound requirements are solved with insulation and gypsum/boards to the extent needed for the desired sound class. CLT is a relatively light frame material, which makes it sensitive to low-frequency sounds. There are various ways to soundproof a frame, and it is common to use some form of elastomer between walls and floors to prevent sound from spreading between apartments and floors via the frame. Furthermore, some form of sound insulation is needed on apartment-separating walls and floors, such as suspended and vibrated ceilings with insulation under the floor or a framed wall layer next to the CLT wall.

Is weather protection needed?

No, the product is not sensitive to rain exposure for a short time but avoid accumulation of standing water. End grain, which absorbs water more easily than other panel surfaces, can be protected with tape or tarpaulin until the next floor is laid. Flat surfaces such as floors can be protected with Wetguard, a rainproof material similar to Goretex but for floors, if it stands unprotected for a long period of time. Make sure that water that has entered can exit quickly and dry out wood that has become moist before it is built in. A good way to keep track of moisture in the panels is to continuously perform moisture checks. Think about the assembly order and assemble vertically in sections to get the roof on quickly.

Which products can use hidden clips?

We offer hidden clips for mounting painted panels and for mounting our Frontwood three-layer board. The system solution is tested and approved even if the cladding requires fire protection treatment.

fasteners

Fasteners

We offer wood fasteners with associated system solutions such as acoustics, air and wind sealing for your project. To facilitate assembly, we recommend make use of the most common products in wood construction together with our partners Rothoblaas and Würth. They offer training, support , and logistics help, as well as site visits.

wetguard

Moisture protection

Wetguard

We offer SIGA Wetguard 200SA for the protection of CLT floors. Wetguard is a self-adhesive and diffusion-open sheet that protects CLT effectively against moisture and dirt and enables an efficient construction process. Wetguard is applied to the panels in Södra's factory and protects the panels during transport and throughout the construction period.

tape

Moisture protection

Tape

We offer tape, both to protect end grain wood against moisture and tape needed for sealing during the assembly of CLT. We can facilitate assembly by taping end grain at the top and bottom of wall panels in our factory, and the panels are delivered to the construction site protected against moisture during the construction period and prepared for contact with concrete.
