Frequently asked questions
How is CLT constructed?
Our CLT is constructed from planed timber that has been finger-jointed and glued together into lamellas. These are cross laid in layers, creating a strong and rigid element with high dimensional stability. When manufacturing CLT, we start with a large panel that is processed into smaller elements. With the help of modern CNC technology, we achieve high precision with precisely cut building parts, customized on request. With cutouts for doors and windows, preparation for cables and pipes, the assembly time on site is much shorter.
What can be built with CLT?
We have delivered frames in CLT to apartment buildings, offices, schools and preschools, industrial buildings, shops and public buildings. We also see an increase in so-called hybrid frames, where wood is combined with other materials. Wood should be used in a way that maximizes all its benefits – with the right material in the right place. Today, we build apartment buildings between 4-8 floors as standard. However, it is possible to build even higher in wood. An example is Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå with 20 floors at 80 meters high. The main segment of housing with 4-8 floors will continue to be the most application where CLT replaces traditional solutions.
How can environmental, economic and social aspects be promoted when building with CLT?
CLT has many advantages and provides lower climate impact than other building materials. Our CLT is a renewable building material manufactured in our fossil-free factory in Väröbacka on the west coast of Sweden. The raw material comes from responsibly managed family forests and is refined into climate-smart and renewable products. It also continues to lock in carbon dioxide throughout its lifespan, making it a wise choice of building material. By thinking through the design and construction of CLT early in the process, you can save both time and cost. Our manufacturing of CLT is optimized based on different situations, and through simple adjustments in manufacturing, great gains can be achieved in subsequent construction stages. Another major advantage of building with CLT is that both transport and assembly time can be reduced compared to construction with heavier materials, as a lighter material requires less transport and is faster to assemble. A building with wood in the frame construction has a consistent and pleasant indoor climate which contributes to the health of its occupants. CLT can also be reused in several ways and enables extensions of existing buildings. |
Advantages of CLT
A natural material with great possibilities
Our CLT consists of forest-certified wood raw material from well-managed family forests in southern Sweden. The size of each sheet can be up to 3.5 meters in width and 16 meters in length.
Good load-bearing capacity with high strength in relation to its low weight.
Enables quick and easy assembly, creating cost efficiency.
Requires less transport due to its low weight.
Contributes to good health with a consistent and pleasant indoor climate.
