EPD – an important tool for sustainable development

For Södra, EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) are an essential part of a more sustainable future. Thanks to EPDs, we can offer greater transparency about our products' environmental impact and help our customers make informed choices. They’re also a crucial part of our active work to reduce the carbon emissions of our products.

Sustainability is central to Södra's strategy and business model. EPDs provide valuable insights into which parts of our manufacturing processes have the most environmental impact, so we know where to focus our reduction efforts.

We need EPDs because our customers demand climate declarations for buildings.  It can be a competitive advantage to hold an EPD, and where applicable, proof that we have a lower environmental impact than our competitors.

EPDs mean we are transparent about our environmental impact, allowing comparisons for both us and others. With a life-cycle perspective, EPDs  illustrate a product's environmental impact across the entire value chain.

Our climate impact

Our EPDs mean we can assess how our timber production impacts the climate. We work continually to reduce our environmental impact and deliver sustainable solutions for our customers.

Facts about EPD – Environmental Product Declaration

An EPD is an environmental product declaration summarising a product's environmental impact in a concise, standardised document. It contains the results from a life cycle analysis plus other essential information about the product. The declaration is reviewed by an independent third party and consistently follows a standard. This makes it easy to compare climate impacts between materials and components with the same function, making it easier to choose sustainable options and significantly impact climate change.
