Sustainable use of resources

Everything can be made smarter and more resource-efficient. We work tirelessly to ensure our use of raw materials from the forest becomes increasingly efficient as we seek even more possibilities. By using every part of the tree, we reduce our environmental impact and increase our competitiveness. Today, we are self-sufficient in energy, but we aim to increase our deliveries of bioenergy to the grid yet further.

Sustainable innovations

Innovation is key to unlocking the full potential of the whole tree. A recent example is the kraft lignin production facility we are building at our pulp mill in Mönsterås, which is scheduled to be operational by 2027. Lignin is the glue that binds the fibres in a tree and kraft lignin can replace fossil materials in a wide range of applications, including adhesives, batteries, rubber and composites, as well as forming the base for new biofuels.

Electricity and heat production

Today, almost all our electricity production comes from renewable fuels. Energy is generated in our pulp mills and sawmills, primarily originating from timber raw materials. Our industrial operations generate a significant surplus of green energy for external customers in the form of renewable electricity, district heating and biofuels.
