The mergers that led to Södra

Södra’s history really begins long before 1938. Forest owners had previously joined in smaller associations linked to counties.

The strength of being stronger together is evident in Södra’s development. When individual forest owners came together, a profitable industry emerged.

The ownership role and venture capital

Very early on, members of Södra contributed capital to the expansion of the industry. They invested a couple of million kronor in the 1952 industrial loan when the pulp mill in Mönsterås was to be built.

When forest farmers joined together in forest owners' associations, there were two important driving forces: economic strength and knowledge transfer about forest management.
