Innovation in 3D forming

There are many possibilities with fibres from the forest, and for several years we’ve been developing projects with 3D forming, testing wood fibres in, among other things, food packaging and disposable products.

Durapulp for life and fresh

Through the EU projects Durapulp for Life and Fresh, we’ve been exploring the possibilities of forming fibre-based products in 3D and creating biodegradable food packaging.

Södra has participated in two EU-funded projects. Durapulp for Life started in 2015 and concluded in 2019. Its primary goal was to demonstrate the production of cellulose  fibre products in 3D through dry forming. Fresh, the second EU project, which concluded in 2020, focused on developing biodegradable food packaging from forest raw material through wet casting. The project was a collaboration between Södra, Huhtamaki and Saladsworks
