Sustainability from the forest
By using biomethanol from Södra, you can significantly reduce your carbon footprint – by up to 99%. The product is certified according to ISCC, which means that the production is environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. Biomethanol is therefore an important product for a sustainable future.
The raw material for our biomethanol comes from the responsibly managed forests of Södra's members. They sum up to more than 50 000 small-scale forest owners, each with their own goals and visions, which add to diversity and variation in the Swedish forest. Around 70% of the members are certified according to PEFC or FSC®, or both.

Biomethanol from the forest
Our production of biomethanol begins with the sulphate pulp process at the mill in Mönsterås. Wood chips are cooked with chemicals to separate the wood into its components—cellulose and hemicellulose (pulp) and lignin. Methanol is formed when the wood and chemicals react during this process.
