Södra nominated for best digital solution
Södra’s development of digital forestry has received a nomination for the international competition for the industry, the PPI awards, arranged by Pulp and Paper International. The concept is competing in the Internet of Things category for the award as the best digital solution of the year.
Södra has been working with forestry digitisation for a long time. For example, as far back as 2006, small handheld PCs (PDAs) with digital maps were being used out in the forests. When the iPad reached Södra, numerous possibilities were discovered that have now led to increasingly digitised forestry with higher quality and precision.
Örjan Vorrei, IT Manager at Södra Skog, will attend the event and present Södra’s work with digital forestry.
“We are delighted to have been nominated. Building smart digital forestry solutions is high on our agenda and has been so for a long time. Digitisation is a cornerstone of our operations and we are continuously seeking new ways to use it fully,” said Örjan Vorrei.
Södra’s field work is currently conducted in many ways via digital applications on mobile phones or tablets. With the help of this technology, large quantities of information together with data about forest owners’ land is collected, and contributes to identifying relevant measures as well as measuring their outcomes.
“Development has created a long unbroken digital chain that creates considerable value at all levels. We are strengthening forest owners’ preconditions for optimising their forest management and, at the same time, we are enabling adjustments in deliveries to our customers that raise quality,” said Örjan Vorrei.
Södra is one of five nominees in the category: The Pulp & Paper Industry Internet of Things Award. The event will take place on November 29 in Brussels.
