For Södra, sustainability is not just part of life, it is life. Sustainable forestry is at the heart of our business model and without a sustainable approach to our work, we simply would not be here. Many of our forest estates have been passed down through the same family for generations. Our members see themselves as custodians of a precious asset for the future, protecting flora and fauna, carefully matching fibre requirements to end products and using the latest in digital technology to balance sustainability with economics. That’s why we plant three new trees for every tree we harvest. It’s why the volume of our standing forest has doubled over the last century. And it’s why several sustainability targets have the same importance as financial targets within the Group.
As you’d expect from a company at the forefront of sustainable forestry, we meet the requirements for eco-labeling (the Swan, the EU Flower), our pulps are FSC/PEFC certified and we hold OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 certifications.
With one of the broadest product portfolios in the business, we can help you make the most of our pulps, so for any additional advice, do call.
Printing and writing
Make the most of your paper machine by using pulp with great reinforcement potential. We have numerous options for you, including the market leader when it comes to reinforcement, Södra green T. If printability is a key parameter, we recommend a pulp with lower coarseness and shorter fibres. You’ll find these in our Södra black range.
We know the needs of speciality papermakers can vary greatly depending on the end product. With our vast product portfolio and extensive fibre knowledge, we’ll help you find the perfect pulp for your needs, whatever the characteristics you require (the highest sustainability credentials come as standard). Contact us to discuss your specific requirements and we’ll help you optimise your furnish.
Whether you need a strong pulp to stand up to embossing or a pulp that maximises softness, we’re confident that you’ll find what you need within our wide product portfolio. And if you supply to a market that prefers totally chlorine-free-products, we offer all our grades as both TCF and ECF.
We produce two products for two different textile fibres. Whether you make viscose or Lyocell, we have the pulp for you. High-alpha pulps with great reactivity result in a cleaner process and improve overall yield, giving you more fibres from your pulp. We use birch for our textile pulps which has longer fibres than eucalyptus, making alkali pressing more effective and actually reducing softwood consumption. And it goes without saying that our textile pulps, like our paper pulps, are sourced from the sustainably-managed forests owned by our members in southern Sweden.
