Södra launches its first electric truck for pulp from Värö
As part of our efforts to halve our emissions of greenhouse gases, we have invested in an electric truck at Värö which will be dedicated to moving pulp from the mill.
The first deliveries will leave the mill this month with the truck expected to save 48 tonnes of CO2 per year, compared with diesel-powered trucks. Supplied by DFDS, the truck has been specially fitted to handle our pulp and will transport units from Värö to port terminals in Gothenburg and Varberg during a pilot project. Each load will weigh up to 40 tonnes, which is the same volume as the diesel-powered trucks previously in use.
"Electrification of our transport is a natural part of our strategy to achieve our goal of net zero emissions of fossil greenhouse gases. It represents an important step in offering our customers more sustainable solutions. Several electrification projects are currently underway at Södra, and this pilot project to transport pulp will give us valuable insights into where and how we can use electric trucks in the future," says Catrin Gustavsson, President of Södra Cell.
