Research in wood products
Södra Timber, which produces sawn timber at Södra’s ten sawmills, sees the need for development work in the industry. Past and current initiatives consist of industry-specific projects, usually in collaboration with external companies and institutions.
Södra Timber, in collaboration with Växjö University and SP Trätek, runs a research programme : CBBT (the Centre for Timber Construction and Housing). The aim of this research programme is to increase the use of timber as a construction material, timber in combination with other materials, and timber construction systems, etc. In addition to Södra Timber, a number of sawmills in southern Sweden contribute to the financing of CBBT.
Södra’s Foundation for Research, Development and Education finances a professorship in Timber Engineering at Växjö University, within the framework of CBBT, and Södra Timber also contributes a further SEK 2.5 million each year to the programme, which corresponds to SEK 1.50 per cubic metre of sawn timber produced.
