Corporate research and development
Within Corporate R&D, research is conducted both internally and in collaboration with research institutes, technical colleges and universities. The aim of the projects is to use wood raw materials and chemicals in new ways that do not compete with the company’s existing products.
Södra works actively in research clusters that are coordinated by, eg, STFI, the Centre for Environment and Sustainability and the VTT Technical Research Centre in Finland. These clusters investigate new methods for further refining lignin, bark, hemi-cellulose etc.
We also collaborate with a number of technical colleges and companies on projects that lead in various ways to entirely new products or renewable replacements for existing products that are currently made from fossil raw materials, such as wood protection, chemical raw materials and material composites.
The department is organized jointly with the environmental and energy departments, which creates good synergies for many of the department’s tasks.
