Södra’s production of pulp takes place at five different pulp mills with a total capacity of 2.1 million tonnes/year, of which just over 100,000 tonnes is mechanical pulp (CTMP) and the rest bleached sulphate pulp. The entire production is sold on the open market to external paper mills and Södra is the world’s third largest supplier of market pulp.

Our four sulphate pulp mills also produce significant amounts of energy - some 1.8 TWh per year to be precise. Of this figure, 0.4 TWh is delivered to external electricity grids. The sulphate process also generates heat and all three Swedish sulphate mills deliver district heating to their local communities.
