Södra Cell’s research and development staff collaborate with universities, research institutions, customers and suppliers to drive development forward in the most effective way.

At present 50 personnel work at Södra Cell’s research plant in Väröbacka. Our specialists are experts in the fields of fibre research and pulp technology. Our laboratory is equipped for lab scale cooking and bleaching, chemical analysis and physical testing of paper pulp.

Södra Cell R&D focuses on the further development of Södra Cell’s products and production processes. An important part of this R&D work is to help mills evaluate new technology and support them in their quality assurance work.

Another important work is to clarify how variations in the process affect variations in the product quality, and ensure that such connections are well understood in the mills.

Södra Cell R&D is divided into four sections: Pulp Technology, Product Development, Pulp Services Academy and the R&D laboratory.
