FSC
The Forest Stewardship Council, FSC, is an international organisation which promotes ecofriendly, socially responsible and economically viable use of the world’s forests. The requirements for FSC certified forest includes respect for the rights of indigenous peoples and that biologically valuable forest be managed in such a way that its natural value is preserved. FSC principles and criteria include overall guidelines for forest management which apply generally throughout the world. These overall rules are adapted to the specific circumstances in individual countries. The FSC system is based on voluntary certification of responsible forestry. Today over 100 million hectares of forest land throughout the world are FSC certified, representing over 10 per cent of the world’s farmed forest. The FSC’s  international traceability certification (CoC) enables the origin of forest products to be traced. This helps consumers and companies to make responsible purchases.

Pressure-treatment compliancy
Södra Timber supplies pressure-treated timber controlled by SP, and in compliance with NTR’s wood preservation standards and marking, according to SS-EN 351-1. Where construction comes into contact with soil, water and moisture, timber needs extra protection in the form of pressure treatment with approved wood preservatives. This also protects against bacteria and insects. The quality of NTR-treated wood is guaranteed by three separate bodies. The Swedish Chemicals Inspectorate (KEMI) controls the environmental impact in relation to efficiency. The Nordic Wood Preservation Council (NTR) makes unbiased field experiments and classifies and approves with regard to effectiveness. The Technical Research Institute of Sweden (SP) ensures that the production of NTR-wood complies with NTR’s quality-assurance system (SS-EN 351-1).
