Forest regeneration is the foundation for profitable and sustainable forestry. Södra selects the most economical and ecological regeneration methods and provides forest owners with services ranging from advice and planning to practical implementation.
Soil preparation and regeneration
Södra’s objective is to work actively with forest regeneration to achieve a higher quality at a lower cost. Soil preparation is the basis for the new generation of forest that follows felling, creating favourable conditions for seedlings to grow. To achieve the best results soil preparation and planting is continuously monitored. Södra performs soil preparation in conjunction with knowledgeable contractors.
Cleaning
During cleaning, the forest is thinned without harvesting the felled trees. This process is the key to developing a forest with large trees that are straight and fine-grained – a forest that will become increasingly beautiful and valuable as time goes on. Unfortunately, cleaning is often neglected which leads to loss of value and increased risk of storm damage. Södra strongly encourages forest owners to pay more attention to this vital process: a well-cleaned stand is more storm-resistant and will provide a significantly higher yield in the future. Cleaning should however be carried out sooner rather than later – consult Södra and we will arrange it for you.
