New treatment plant at Södra Timber Värö

Södra Timber investing SEK 30 million in pressure treatment plant at its sawmill in Värö on the Swedish west coast.

"There is growing demand for treated timber, and it goes hand in hand with Södra Timber's ambition to be involved in more of the value chain," says Anders Pålsson, Värö mill manager.

Södra Timber has been running an ongoing process for some years to further refine its products and add value to meet customer requirements.

"Customers want to reduce the amount of capital they have tied up and this puts a lot of pressure on us to reduce lead times. Having our own pressure treatment plant will save much of the time and energy involved in transportation to and from outsourced impregnation - a saving which will benefit customers. Having control over the entire production process will also enable us to work closely with customers to develop efficient transport solutions, including more regular delivery service and a broader product mix," says Anders Pålsson.

The new plant will have an annual capacity of 100,000 cubic metres of treated wood products for construction.

The new plant is scheduled to start running by next summer, with the project planning and tender process taking place during the autumn. Construction start will be early next year.
