Transport to the Industry

Raw materials are transported to our mills by road, rail and sea. Lorries are needed to provide access to the harvested forest. Wherever possible we use rail for transporting wood and raw materials. Sea freight is used for the import of foreign raw materials to our plants.

Much of the operation’s air emissions come from transportation. The key environmental factors are fuel consumption of lorries, sulphuric oxide emissions from ships and emissions of fossil carbon dioxide from all forms of transportation.

Improving the efficiency of transportation from the forest to the industry is something we prioritise. One of the advantages we have is that most of the raw materials for our plants come from within 100 kilometres of our pulp mills and saw mills.
