Renewable energy

Renewable energy sources are characterised in that they are renewed. The opposite are fossil fuels such as coal and oil, of which the world’s supplies will end. Given the current high rate of consumption, this will happen relatively soon.
Renewable energy includes solar, wind and hydro power. The forest is also in this category as well as biofuels which come from the forest. So far, renewable energy has been used on a small scale.

Södra’s investments in biofuels show that it is also possible to produce renewable energy on a larger scale. This plays a significant role in our efforts to replace the fossil fuels which have such a negative effect on the climate.

Energy is the important part of the forest's cycle. As the forest grows, it uses carbon dioxide from the air and locks it in. When the forest is then used as an energy source, the carbon dioxide is released only to be recaptured when the new forest grows.
