The industry works toward reducing environmental impact

Södra’s industries meet the communities’ standards when it comes to environmental impact. Our ambition is to do better than what is required and together to reduce our impact on the environment.

Södra’s industrial enterprises affect the environment primarily through its emissions during mass production and from transportation. Generally, the impact is not very extensive, but it can disturb the people in the surroundings. For example, there may be noise or odour issues. Our goal is to try to reduce the environmental impact.

Södra runs 90 industries in Sweden and 4 in Norway requiring permits and applications for its activities. Our industries operate under licences issued from Swedish and Norwegian environmental authorities. Activities subject to permit requirements are tree pulp industries, saw mills and peat mosses. Among those activities requiring application are timber terminals, bio-fuel terminals, plane operations and greenhouse cultivation of seedlings.

Södra’s emissions and resource consumption is inventoried every year. During inventory, the products are tracked from the forest to the customer. The inventory accounts for the consumption of renewable and finite resources, the total environmental impact from our activities and transportation of raw materials and finished products.
