Environmental economy

The environmental work is associated both with expenditures and revenues. Good environmental performance and certified products improve our competitiveness on the market. Reduced emissions result in lower environmental taxes and fees. The environmental work is furthermore associated with good energy economy, which also lowers costs.

Among the environmental expenditures worth noting are environmental fees and taxes, the “green” work, premiums for certified timber, monitoring costs, projects with environmental associations and expenses for co-workers within the environmental area.

In 2005, the environmental costs decreased. This was due to the expense of environmental fees and taxes having been reduced, which in turn are a result of a decrease in the consumption of oil and reduced emissions of nitrous oxides at the pulp mills. More and more refuse has been recycled, which has also decreased operating expenses.

Södra strives at having well-invested facilities on the cutting edge in terms of technology, environment and profitability. During the past 15 years, environmental investments have amounted to SEK 2.2 billion. This represents one fifth of the group’s investments.
