The Södra Plant is a new type of seedling

The Södra Plant is a subproject of the “Effective Forest Regeneration” project. The Södra Plant project started some five years ago and as part of it many trials have been run by engaged personnel at Södra’s three seedling orchards. The objective is to develop a relatively “short and stubby” plant that is able to resist pressure from the pine weevil in southern Sweden.  The plant should naturally also be vigorous with a well-balanced nutritional status, to ensure good establishment in the forest. The root system should be well developed and free from root deformations.

In spring 2008 the first million Södra plants are being delivered to Södra customers. With the help of advanced cultivation technology and ongoing trials, we hope to be able to further improve the Södra Plant in future.
