Part of our work at Södra Skog involves research and development in the field of forestry logistics to improve our systems for felling, measurement, timber preparation and handling. This process is a key part of our overall productivity improvement.

But as well as improving productivity, smarter decision support for felling and transportation also reduces environmental impact.

We are working systematically to develop alternative transportation solutions and more efficient route planning systems, based on an analysis of future customer requirements and distribution patterns.

A valuable tool in the development of our logistics and information systems is the geographic information system, GIS, which we are using to develop methods for remote analysis, stock-taking technology and analysis and production aids. GIS also helps improve mobility, integration and information availability throughout the operation.
